Ciconiiformes generally include stork-like birds, such as herons and bitterns. Common colors include shades of blue, gray and white. They are generally large carnivorous birds possessing sharp bills as well as long necks and legs. Most inhabit freshwater wetlands, where they hunt alone by stalking marine prey slowly before striking with their bill. Ciconiiformes can be as small as 10 inches to more than 1.2 meters (e.x. heron). A common characteristic is the quality of having long, flexible toes without webbing, which allows them to stabilize in marshy conditions as well as treetops.
