The order Passeriformes is the largest order of birds, over 5,300 known species of birds in the world are classified in this order. Passeriformes are also known as "perching birds". The order is divided into two suborders - the Oscines and Suboscines. Oscines include about 4,000 species and are distinguished from suboscines by a complex voice box and song learning capacity. Oscines are generally a tropical group of about 1,000 species in and around South America. Passeriformes have three un-webbed toes in the front and one strong, flexible toe in the back which lets them perch on tree branches. Passeriformes are found in all parts of the world and are the most diverse, coming in a variety of colors, pattern, shapes and sizes. For example, body sizes vary from about 1.4 kg in northern populations of Ravens to just a few grams.
